6 Jobs in Rockford, IL You Didn't Know Existed

Looking for part-time work in the Rockford, IL area? You could go the obvious route, searching for a job in retail or a restaurant. Of course, that assures you will be on your feet the entire time – something not everyone looks forward to. But there are other options out there, depending on your skills and preferences. In fact, there are jobs you probably never knew existed.

Maybe one of them is right for you. For example, you might consider one of these:

1. Crew Member

“Crew” is a generic term many employers use to describe generic jobs. In one job, you would be greeting movie-goers, taking their tickets and answering their questions. This job requires “standing, walking, lifting, twisting, and bending on a frequent basis” plus the “ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry it up to 90 feet.” You will have to be in good shape.

2. Day or Night Shuttle Driver

There are a number of driver-type jobs available in the Rockford area. One notes that you not only need a valid driver’s license, (of course) but that you will be “working outside in all weather.” Hmmmmm.

3. Instacart Shopper

Lots of openings for this, too. If grocery shopping is your thing, this is the job for you. People order groceries online, you zip around the store bagging their stuff. Then you pack it in the car and deliver the groceries to their door. You need to be able to lift up to 50 pounds for this job, too. Sounds doable, doesn’t it? But here’s the catch – the car you use to deliver those groceries? Yours. The smartphone you use to capture customer orders and fill them? Yours.

Plus – this is something to watch for with many part-time jobs – this is an independent contractor position. You will be working for yourself, so no benefits, paid time off, sick days, etc.

4. Service Agent Car Detailer

This snazzy title translates to “car washer.” The person who lands this job “cleans vehicles inside and out,” by hand or by operating carwash equipment, performs some non-mechanical maintenance tasks, and moves vehicles around the parking area. Sounds like a good job if you like to be on the go, but you’ll be polishing cars instead of polishing your people skills, problem-solving abilities or other career skills.

5. Wildlife Removal Technician

You did not see that coming, did you? Birds get into buildings, get confused and cannot figure out how to get out. This is especially problematic in stores, restaurants and industrial locations where sanitation is an issue. This employer says if you “enjoy the thrill of the chase,” this job is for you. They will train you and give you some gear to use, then it is up to you to determine how to use the gear to remove the birds.

There is a catch here, too – you must be available to work within a 75-mile radius, and although the company provides the gear you will need, you will have to provide your own transportation.
